Key Attributes of Best-Selling WordPress Theme + Examples

Hello fellows! My today’s review post is going to be a summing-up of all the qualities that make a certain premium WordPress theme popular among website owners looking for a suitable design for their existing or future WP website.

You’ve probably noticed that:

  1. Best-sold WordPress themes are packed with a tremendous amount of features and come with multiple pre-designed homepages and inner page layouts.
  2. Such themes are crafted as comprehensive solutions for building a WP website without any coding and special skills, just using your intuition and creativity.
  3. Their every feature proves that creating a website is an easy and time-saving task.
  4. These themes are simple to install and activate, and you can import a ready-made demo with one click.
  5. Lots of additional and custom shortcodes, widgets, plugins and options are included in the pack.

But what are the most frequent features and opportunities provided by best-selling WordPress themes?
What attributes a professionally-made premium WordPress template can’t exist without? And what are the things that make such themes so cool and demanded by lots of customers?

I’ve resolved to share my own vision and conclusions concerning the compulsory features of a premium WordPress template which is sure going to be in demand among buyers.

Let’s start.

Pre-designed Home and Inner Pages

If you’ve been browsing enough premium WP themes offered on the modern market, you’ve probably seen that most of them come with multiple homepage demos available. This feature can be present both in multi-concept and regular premium WP themes that include a bunch of homepage layouts to select from.

If this is a multipurpose theme, then numerous homepage designs are usually made for different purposes like, for instance, vet care, agency, photography, medical, yoga, golf, etc. Such demo homepages are likely to be different in structure, color scheme, contain different dummy content, CTA buttons, etc.

If the theme is a regular one, which means it is intended exactly for only one single purpose like photography, portfolio, restaurant, or something else, then its demo page variants are going to be different in style. For instance, different homepage templates of a definite photography theme can include various homepage sliders.

A multitude of inner page templates is also a great bonus for a WordPress theme that is about to be a best-seller. This creates a choice for a user who wants to build a comprehensive multipage website for their business or personal needs.

Slider or Hero Image

Every cool premium WordPress theme mostly has a hero slider or a hero image on its homepage. Sometimes this can be a fullscreen, shift, ribbon, ken burns or any other slider type which is meant to attract the attention of users and reflect the purpose of the theme.

Blog oriented WP templates may sometimes include static hero images that look astonishing and that are focused on the subject of a website this theme is designed for.

Dummy Text

It’s not that engaging when a standard ‘Lorem Ipsum Dolor’ is used instead of site title, displayed in call-to-action buttons, replaces the text inside info-boxes, and defines any other sections of the theme.

Such text may make a user believe that the theme has been created half-heartedly ‘cause the developer hadn’t got enough time to come up with something more meaningful and relevant. I would think that this developer isn’t interested in conquering the rivals and selling as many samples of the theme as possible to gain trust of customers.

Alternatively, the ready-made dummy content (text and photos) will make a user believe the theme is diligently crafted by a team of experts including text writers and marketers skilled in making appealing titles, slogans, descriptions, product names, and more.

Dummy content will help a user get an insight on how the theme will look when it becomes a full-fledged website with custom content uploaded.

For instance, you are a designer and you want to sell your agency focused WordPress theme, let it be called AgensPress. So you can create a dummy slogan for your potential agency and write something like “Hello, we are AgensPress and we are creative! See our works to make sure!” This slogan can be a caption for your hero slider, and this is going to be your dummy text.

The same way you can create a welcome message, names for lightboxes, about section content, etc. This is going to look much better than a standard ‘Lorem Ipsum’ anyway.

Stock Photos and Presentations

Have you seen a premium WordPress theme demo without beautiful images? I’m sure you haven’t. There is no premium WP template which comes with empty galleries and absolutely unattractive presentations.

Stock images make the themes look bright and saturated. If this is a photography template, its galleries are full with stunning images intended to show a customer how awesome their web-page is going to look if they choose that certain theme.

Stock images are used to create an engaging presentation and deliver a message to a potential customer in a very stylish way.

Gallery Variations

Photography and portfolio websites are focused on displaying custom images in the most eye-catching manner. This is why photo-focused WP templates are made with a wide array of gallery layouts that help to craft a masterpiece out of a simple bunch of photography works belonging to a talented artist.

By the way, photography WordPress themes are considered to be one of the best-selling website designs on the market.

Multiple Blog Layouts and Single Posts

A perfect WordPress theme is going to always include a number of journal or blog layouts for storytelling. They usually come with right or left sidebar, boxed or fullwidth designs, and look really attractive. By the way, you will find a number of single post types like standard, image, video, quote, link, and others.

Plenty of Theme Options

Premium WordPress themes include a great bundle of custom theme options helpful for managing the feel and look of a website.

For instance, some templates include custom-made header and footer builders, different blog options (like turn on or turn off the related posts, etc.), various shop options (show or hide a shop category title, select top and bottom pagination, etc.), and many more.

Plugins Pre-Packed

Most premium WordPress themes come with an immense collection of plugins in its pack. So right after the theme is activated, a customer is offered to automatically install and activate a number of plugins required for a theme to work properly.

Among other plugins, there are always drag-and-drop page builders available. For instance, many modern WP templates come with WPBakery page builder or Elementor integrated. This allows a user build a website using an intuitive interface and a bunch of content blocks instead of writing a code. So, even non-programmers can utilize such WP themes for their website building needs.

WooCommerce Support and Shop Layouts

Every professionally-made WordPress template is often compatible with eCommerce functionality and comes with a cart, ajax search, wishlist, and other online shopping attributes. Most of the times WordPress themes support WooCommerce or Shopify online selling platforms providing all the required functions for running a store on the Web.

eCommerce-compatible WP themes include a number of online-shopping-focused page layouts such as products list and categories, product gallery, single product pages, and more.

What Does That Mean?

A number of choices (like multiple layouts, demos and gallery types) makes a customer believe your WordPress theme is a universal and all-in-one solution for all of their current or upcoming website building ideas. This creates a belief they pay a very small fee for unlimited opportunities, and they have no doubt this price is ok.

A customer pays only once to buy a theme and get an extensive design solution with a splendid amount of features, automatic updates, customization possibilities and beautiful appearance.

Is there a guarantee that your theme is going to become a best-seller if it has all of the mentioned above attributes? Well, actually, there is no guarantee, but all of that really increases your chances. Your only task will be to beat the competition.

Hope this was helpful,

Melany H.
